Electric Guitar and Live Electronics

soliloquy (2015) was written as an experiment in expanding the performance capabilities of the electric guitar specifically through the use of live processing in Max. While the instrument is commonly known for being played with a wide variety of effects pedals to alter timbre and texture, live processing affords the additional opportunity to gradually alter the parameters of the effects over a period of time in a large number of meaningful ways. This piece borrows idioms from the post-rock and shoe gaze genres and recontextualizes those ideas into a more structural framework informed by the evolution of the effects throughout the work.
